- I successfully installed Age of Empires 2 DE but only after re-installing the latest Windows 10 image (keeping my existing files) I even managed to start a game, but as it was late at night, I had to come back a couple of days later. Now it states that it needs administrator privileges to run.
- Age of Empires 2 HD doesn't come out until April 9th, but those who pre-ordered the game have just received access to the game and there already a great many problems. When I first heard of issues with this release it was due to Reddit, but then I also checked out the Steam.
- Go to your AoE II Hd game files and rename your AoE HD.exe file to something else (LikeAoE HDoriginal.exe) then go to a folder called AoEdump and copy that AoE HD.exe back to where u just remaned the other one, double click the renamed AoE HDOriginal.exe and it will launch (at least for me it did) level 1.
To fix could not initialize graphics system. directdraw for Age of Empires 2 we will need a tool called AoE2Tools.

Step 2: Apply The Fix Through AoE2Tools
You can ignore any errors you see on AoE2Tools for now. All we need is to access the menu on the top left hand side of AoE2Tools
Right click AoE2Tools Shield > Voobly Medkit
Select 'Fix Couldn't Display Or DirectDraw Display Error' then hit apply button
Finally, Press 'Download Now'.
